Roku has to be unplugged from power each time I use it

I have 3 roku devices and two work great.  My newest, Roku Express 4K, won’t start unless I unplug it from the power outlet and plug it back in every time I try to use it.

Is it defective or am I missing something with this newest device?

Re: Roku has to be unplugged from power each time I use it

One thing that trips people up is some newer Rokus have a sleep/low power feature, so, for example, after I set the TV to the Roku input, I press the Home button on the Roku remote to wake it up.  There is a setting where you can turn this feature off.  Based on some posts here, it seems like some people just weren't pressing a key on the Roku remote to wake it, and once they learn to do that, all is well, but other people seem to have trouble waking it up even when they do, so for them the solution is to turn the feature off.  (Some people don't post detailed descriptions so I can't always tell whether they're pushing a button or just expecting something to show up immediately.)

@Tom26-

Expanding on @Strega's response:

Roku operating system version 10.5 added added a new "Power" item in the "Settings > System" menu for some of the latest Roku device models. The new "Auto power savings" item there will put your Roku device into a low power standby condition after a period of inactivity, such as when your tv has been turned off for a while.

Pressing a Roku control key on your Roku remote (not Power, Volume, or Mute keys, if you have them, which act on the TV, not the Roku) should bring the Roku out of standby and back to full operation. Pulling the power for a few seconds or a short press of the Roku's reset button should restart the Roku and restore full operation as well.

If you have a "Settings > System > Power" menu item, deactivating any power saving options you find under "Auto power savings" will prevent your Roku from going into standby in the first place.

Re: Roku has to be unplugged from power each time I use it

I have two Roku Expresses. Both have to be unplugged from the power and plugged back in each time to wake them up. I pushed every button there is on the remote and these do NOT any power saving options. I have the latest update as of July 28, 2022.  Both are plugged into the power supply that came with them.

 Think I know why they were advertised on 'my offers...'

@gittist

Thanks for the post.

When you are done using your Roku device, are you making sure to return to the Home screen or are you simply just turning off your TV? In addition, have you tried replacing the batteries in the remotes?

With more detailed information, we will be able to assist you further.

Thanks,
Danny
