Roku Express+ not Loading - Blue Screen

One of my Roku Express+ devices is not working. All I see is a blue screen. I tried rebooting it by first pulling out the power cord to the device itself, and then also removing the power cord from the wall outlet behind the TV, but that didn't work. I still only see a solid blue screen.

I transferred my defective  Express+ from one non-smart TV to another and I was somehow then able to get it to work. I did another System Update, as I had done on the other TV, but this time the Roku remained on through the entire Roku initiation/setup process. Once I was able to complete this, which I couldn’t do on the other TV, the Roku loaded and now works. The Roku Express+ that was working, which I transferred to the other TV, worked perfectly. I have no idea why this worked but I’d be interested in your guess as to why it did.

Thanks for the post.

How are you powering the Roku device? Is the device plugged into the TV USB port or is it plugged into a wall outlet with the provided cable and adapter?

When performing a factory reset, are you making sure to hold down the reset button for at least 30 seconds regardless of what is happening on the screen?

Thanks, Danny. I am embarrassed to admit the issue was the TV was on the wrong input. I corrected and the Roku worked.

Danny,

I am now having problems with another Roku Express+, which was quickly switching off, leaving me with just a blue screen. This time I first made sure I was on the right TV input which I am. I did a hard reset by putting a pin in the reset hole in the back of the device. The Roku did the show me a setup screen menu, and as I entered "ENGLISH" it turned off again. I reset it again and got the Network screen but it turned off again before I could log back into my WiFi network. I hard reset it again but now the Roku is flashing but the TV screen is blue - not seeing the Roku home screeen. So I can't even connect the device to my wireless network. What should I do? I have the serial number. thanks

The Roku Express+, which is less than 2 years old, has a black rectangular plug which is plugged into one of the 2 wall outlets behind the TV. The TV is plugged into the other outlet. 

The one thing I noticed after I reset the device the first time and the main menu did appear, and I checked the wireless connection - it indicated it was weak, which has never been an issue before for any of my many Rokus. I have an EERO wireless mesh router system and one of the EERO extenders is 40-50 feet from this Roku device. The Roku displayed good signal strength on my EERO app before I did a hard reset on the device.

On my Roku which is plugged up correctly and is on the right input is sketchy. When it works it’s great but when it don’t it leaves a blue box on the tv screen saying there is nothing connected! So frustrating especially when I pay for subscriptions! I have it mabey 20 feet from the main router and it says it’s connected, which I can tell on my phone what’s connected. I have done plenty of hard resets but no help, I’m thinking of trying another product since this is so frustrating when it don’t work!
