Roku/Brazil

Jump to solution

I just don't understand why Roku does not offer support to Brazil.
Roku have been already in many countries in South America. It should consider unblocking stream services and channels here.

Hi there,

Channel availability in each location or region on the Roku platform is determined by each channel provider themselves. If a channel isn't available in your location, you'll want to contact the channel provider directly to inquire further and share your interest in seeing their channel/service on Roku in your area.

Thanks,

Tanner

Roku doesn't block channel or media access. That is done by the channel creators and/or the media content providers. For the two channels that I know for certain are created by Roku, the Roku Channel is US only (although they might have added Canada, not certain). This is due I'm sure to the licensing agreements they have with the media content providers. They can only allow access to the locations agreed upon with the providers. The other channel is the Roku Media Player. It supports media playback over DLNA or for devices with a USB port a directly connected storage device. It has no geo-restrictions, as it doesn't provide any content itself.
.
If there are no Roku channels that offer services in Brazil, it wouldn't make much sense for them to sell and service the players in that country. The media providers must offer content before you can use a player like Roku there.

They would need to create a separate Channel Store, have special firmware for your region, and hire personnel to support it. Then it's up to Netflix, Amazon, etc to enable their content on that particular store. So, not a simple as you think.

I leave in Brazil and Netflix app installs and runs like a charm in my Roku stick+ (Brazilian Netflix account). I do not understand why Amazon Prime Video blocks the installation of its app for Roku since this is not a geographic violation (I'll be accessing a legit Brazilian Prime Video account in a Roku device located in Brazil).

Any help?
