I gave my Roku Premier to a friend. I’m trying to install it and the remote was working fine. I decided I needed to reset it, so I can get rid of my account information. Now the remote won’t work. I got to the language screen and I’m not able to continue from there. I replaced the batteries with brand new ones. The power button works and so does the volume. I just can’t make any selections. What’s up with that? I can’t get it set up for her without the remote. It’s a relatively new device, too.
Please help!
After a factory reset the roku loses pairing with wifi remotes. If it were the original IR remote that came with premiere it would just work. Only wifi remotes have tv controls, no IR remotes have it unless it was roku tv remote. So press and hold the pairing key in the battery compartment of the remote for 3 seconds and release. Let it communicate with roku.
Depending on the model of Premiere, you probably have an IR remote. That means it does not require pairing, but it does need a clear line of sight between the remote and the Roku.
How to tell if you have an IR remote? Open the battery case and look for a button near the bottom. If there is no button, then it's IR, and it either works or it doesn't. If there's a button, you need to re-pair the remote to the player. Follow the steps on this page to pair the remote.

Thank you so much for such a quick response!! I appreciate it so much.
A remote with tv power and volume buttons sounds like one that uses a Wi-Fi remote connection to the Roku. After doing a Factory reset, a Wi-Fi remote will need to be paired to the Roku again.
