Pairing streaming stick+

Just installed a Streaming stick+ to replace a 3900X. Pushed button below batteries to obtain a blinking green light. Got as far as the TV screen that is frozen at "pair your remote" and does not respond to any button on the remote. What must I do now?

For what it's worth, I might add that the stick displays a double-blink green light.
