Is it OK to plug a Roku Express into a surge protector?

I had to get a new Roku Express recently because I was getting a over heating message from it. And I'm wondering if this might been because I had it plugged into a surge protector?

I looked online and couldn't find any definitive answers, I mean I don't see why it would cause a problem I mean my brother has his Roku 3 plugged into a surge protector and he hasn't had any issues.

A surge protector is better than no surge protector. Always.
Yeah, I got some Rokus.

Things aren't black or white for example the Xbox One X has a built in surge protector and it would cause problems if you were to plug into a surge protector and starting around the Nintendo Wii it "could cause problems" if you have your Nintendo console plugged into a surge protector.

Roku's don't have built in surge protectors.

Neither do Nintendo consoles.

I could be wrong but I cannot imagine why a surge protector would have any negative effects for any equipment unless perhaps it was malfunctioning.
