Can't input characters in email field

I'm trying to setup roku premier. It's connected just fine to my wifi but I'm stuck where it's asking me to enter my email to receive the activation code. I can't get the on screen to allow me to input anything in that field. I tried with my mobile roku app and same results. I can't input anything.

you need to download remote app to phone and that will have the keyboard

My email input problem occurs when I attempt to enter my user name (which is an email address) to use Broadway HD on my TV. I use the keyboard from the Roku app, but it cuts off the typing (on the Broadway HD screen, but not on the app screen) five characters prior to the end.  Needless to say, I can't log in. I do not have the same problem logging in on my computer.  Any ideas?

I plugged my phone into my Roku USB port and was able to type
