Can I connect Roku stick+ bought as gift to verify before giving as gift.

Reason want to see if it would work for us (old tv/phone internet) before buying another but unsure if would cause issue registering once gifted?

Yes.  You'll have to create a Roku account and go through the whole setup process.  Once you're finished playing with it, perform a factory reset before gifting it.

You'll want to unlink it from your Roku account and you may want to remove the Roku account you created as well.  You can do both at https://my.roku.com

Keep in mind there's never a fee to activate a Roku.  Beware of scams.
