I don't know what that "AirPlay" app is, but that's not Apple's implementation of AirPlay. I'd stay away from that. AirPlay is accessible via the method I showed in my screen shot.

I see an app with a similar icon called Air Cast for TV in the App Store. It has nothing I want, so I don't have that.
I have Roku devices, Apple TV devices, and Chromecast devices. I can use the built-in functionality of iPad to mirror to Roku and Apple TV. I can use the Chromecast support within apps (ie, Netflix) to cast to Roku or Chromecast. No "Air Cast" or "Air Play" app by some third party is needed.
Again, it is device (iPad, phone) to Roku. You cannot go Roku to iPad.

I think the problem is my roku on the tv is connected via ethernet. I don't do wifi. The devices, cell phone, ipad etc are wireless. I don't think it will work. I saw that you can use a cell phone to voice search and type instead of using the roku remote. That is what got me started.
The chromecast as stated needs wifi. I'm not doing that, ethernet is much faster.
Thank you again.
