We have three Roku devices in our house. All of them have not been able to update for the last two weeks. Current version: 14.1.4.7709 . Trying to update to 14.5.4.5944. we try to manually update and it fails. A blank screen appears and we have to unplug and plug them back in to get the home screen to reappear. Sometimes the device tries updating on its own , fails ultimately and the same thing occurs. It has to be unplugged and plugged back in. Spectrum is our provider. They claim it's nothing on their end. They blame Roku. I don't know what else to do.
I’ve been having the same issue for 2 weeks with the same update on my 3930RW. It updated fine on my Roku Premiere though. I was assuming that Roku decided to brick the older Express models & that’s why the update won’t work.
As far as I know all three are express models. Mine is 4+ years old. The other two are maybe two years old and the last isn't event a year old. If that matters. It might not. But they are all express I know that. I know years ago all three couldn't play Disney plus , it had to be played on laptops or phones only because our models were deemed outdated. I just think it'd be a waste to get new Roku devices if the device (s) are not the issue. But neither Roku support nor spectrum seem to be of any help.
All you can do is wait. Roku has said that the update should be rolled out completely by the end of the month. I have devices from an Express to the latest Ultra and none of them have received the update.
This is hope, at least.
Hey everyone!
Thanks so much for bringing up your concerns about the Roku device updates! Just a quick heads-up that Roku OS 14.5 is on the way! It’ll automatically update your compatible Roku players and TVs by the end of April.
Stay tuned for more updates, and happy streaming! 💜

I also have an old Roku Express Plus model and my parents have old Roku Express models, which is many years older than yours. It is not a Spectrum issue; it is a Roku issue. This update errored out and showed that blank wallpaper screen, so I did this, and I was able to update my Roku Express Plus and their Roku Express devices to OS 14.5. My next post on that page (page 10) of this "Issue Tracking Board" thread lists the steps including how to manually update the Roku in the order that I did this, so that may be more user-friendly. I'm assuming that this workaround should also work on your newer Roku Express devices; although, I'm not certain if this will work on other Roku device models.
None of my other Roku devices are updating to this OS version, so I'm guessing that Roku has paused this OS update on other models until this 004 error is resolved.
