My Roku is updating almost every night Why? I have to activate every single time, log in to each app again and rearrange all apps. If this keeps happening I’m going to a fire stick. I’ve never had this issue before
It shouldn't be happening, so there's something wrong with your Roku device or its power source. If you're using the TV's USB port to power it, try using a USB power adapter that can provide at least 1 Amp plugged into the wall.
I just made the switch. Hopefully this works and I will be forever grateful for the help
Losing power should not cause a full reset that requires relogging in and rearranging app locations. It should be no different than a simple reboot.
During an update though?? During an update is a lousy time to lose power. Many devices can thoroughly brick themselves if that happens.
I agree, losing power over an update can brick a device and make it difficult to reset and fix.
How do we know it is actually updating. You can go to settings/system/software update and see if anything is available. If some are available, do it now. If it loses power during the update, then something is wrong with the device.
Also, exactly which model Roku? You can find the model number under settings/system/about.
It's possible a power issue is causing the problem too or both actually, but yes, the poster needs to provide more information.
I just went with the thread title on the updating.
I haven't actually measured the power use of a Roku, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if it goes up substantially during an update. There is significant CPU usage and most non-volatile memory systems require much more power to erase/rewrite than to read.
We also know that many TVs don't supply much power to their USB ports, and the OP has "made the switch". So, I won't be surprised at all if it is fixed now. (Assuming a successful update can completely clean up after a bunch of failed ones.)
We'll see...
Yes, I agree. Devices like tablets, smart watches, phones, etc... always require a minimum battery level, probably because of the fact that there is much more power being used during updates, so it wouldn't be a stretch that a powered device would also use more power when updated. and during the update process.
