The YouTube app restarts every time I exit the app even for just a few seconds

I’m someone who likes to fall asleep to noise. I’ll exit the YouTube app (mid video) to set up the sleep timer. When I go back into the app, it completely restarts and I have to go back to the video I’m watching and fast forward to where I was. Sometimes I even have to choose my profile again. Is there any way the app can save my spot? Even just for a couple minutes?

That would be an app issue. Google built the app.

Now, if there is some stray data that needs to be cleared out, you can remove the app, reboot the Roku, then reinstall the app (in that order; don't change the order) and see if that clears it up.
