Streaming Stick+ loses all settings and does not respond to remote

My Streaming Stick+ (model 3810x) has behaving strangely in the last week. It has repeatedly asked me to repeat the settings (from the "Let's get started" screen) at power on. And today, it would not respond at all to the remote. I could not click "English" to begin the setup.

I know the remote batteries are good––and the remote is still able to control the TV power and volume. I tried to control the Roku from the iOS App but the device is not on the network yet.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Is this a problem with the remote or the Roku? Has there been a recent update that may have caused this?

spoke with support and they had me try to repeat the remote pairing. but when it failed, they suggested that the remote was fine, but the StreamingStick+ has died and must be replaced. then they offered a 30% coupon code, since it was out of warranty.
