As of the latest OS update, none of my Roku devices are capable of being targets for AirPlay from iPhone or iPad. In some cases, my Roku devices will appear on the list of AirPlay targets, but the process times out and an error appears “Unable to AirPlay to [Device Name].” Most cases, none of my Roku devices even appear on the list of target devices.
I have checked that both my Apple and Roku devices are on the same network, and that AirPlay is set to “on” on all my Roku devices (under Settings).
By contrast, I have Samsung smart TVs around my house and AirPlay works without issue on all of them.
My Streaming Stick+ is on OS 12.0.0, build 4184-50.
My Philips Roku TV is on OS 12.0.0, build 4182-63.
Hi @RAMM4691,
Thank you for posting here in the Roku Community!
We apologize for the inconvenience. We understand that you're having a problem connecting your Roku devices on Airplay, no worries; we're here to assist you with this.
Since you can't connect through airplay, Roku has a feature that is most likely the same as airplay. You can take a look at the settings and look for screen mirroring.
You can check out here: How to screen mirror your Android or Windows phone to your Roku streaming device.
Please keep us informed on how you're doing.
Thanks,
Anjelie
Hi @RokuAnjelie —
Thank you for replying. Unfortunately, screen mirroring is not supported by Apple devices, the instructions you linked to refer to Windows and Android, which we do not have at the moment, so this is not an option for our household.
Would it be possible to escalate this to Roku’s technical team to get confirmation whether this AirPlay issue we are experiencing can be replicated on Roku’s end?
Your help is much appreciated.

Hi @RokuAnjelie — Thanks for the link. I have checked and tried all the content on that page. I also factory-reset my Stick+ and still no change. I can’t AirPlay content to the device. Other suggestions would be welcome.

Hi @RokuJohnB —
Well, I just returned home from my vacation trip, connected the Roku Streaming Stick + (3810, 3811 series) to my TV, added it to my LAN (which I had to do since I had factory-reset it) and lo and behold, AirPlay is working fine. Go figure!
I find it odd that during my travels I connected to two different LANs in two different locations, and the stick refused to AirPlay at all; I am certain the stick was on the same network as my iOS devices, but now I guess there may have been something about those two networks (one in a hotel, one in an Airbnb) that blocked AirPlay traffic somehow?
In any event, the issue appears to have resolved itself. I would appreciate if Roku has any insight as to possible reasons for AirPlay to be that sensitive to changing networks.
Thanks for being willing to assist.
