My roku stick which plugs into the HDMI port will not work with my Sony Bravia TV. The blue light on the stick does not come on. The tv does not detect anything in the external input.
The roku stick worked perfectly well in my RCA tv simply plugged into the hdmi port. Why won't it work plugged into the hdmi port of my sony?
Is this an old Roku stick, purple in color, that has an HDMI plug on one end but no USB port where a power connection is to be made? And is the RCA set it works on of the same vintage?
If so, this is one of two long-discontinued Roku models that plugs into an MHL port on the TV. An MHL port physically resembles an HDMI port but also supplies power to the Roku -- something a standard HDMI port dies not do. These Roku models have no other way to get power than from an MHL port.
MHL ports never really caught on and few, if, any, can be found on more recent TV's. I'm guessing your RCA has an MHL port, but your Sony does not.
I purchased a new Roku Express 4K+ device and it had been working with my Sony Bravia TV. But after I updated the TV, the TV no longer recognizes the Roku device. I've tried everything including unplugging the TV and device and restarting the internet, but it still isn't working. Any advice?
@atwater, make sure you're using the supplied power adapter and not the TV's USB port.
