Scary Image on Home Screen

A promotion for Black Phone keeps appearing on our Home Screen. We have a 5 year old. Is there a way to make sure nightmare-inducing material doesn’t pop up on the Home Screen? If not, we may have to switch to another brand streaming stick…

I came here hoping to find a solution for the same problem. Totally inappropriate.

Re: Scary Image on Home Screen

This needs to be addressed immediately. For the last 2 days, our Home Screen was showing an advertisement for an 18+ movie with a scary image. My kids see it on the home screen every time they use the television. Do something about it!! This is totally inappropriate for children.

PS. When we clicked on it, it took us to the prime tv app where we selected the Kids Profile and it still allowed us to play the preview for the 18+ movie, even under the Kids Profile!! That's how easy it would be for my kids to view it. Get this fixed.

Re: Scary Image on Home Screen

Found this and similar threads after having a preview for "Murder House Flip" shoved in front of us during the lunch hour, and was doubly insulted when logging into the website and seeing an even more graphic advert for the same program! Far be it from me to judge those who enjoy the True Crime genre, but this household doesn't want to be a part of the glorification of the worst parts of humanity.

It is a puzzlement that this sort of control doesn't already exist on ROKU. At the movie theater, the trailers are now matched to the MPAA rating of the film they precede. Netflix parental controls have the option of excluding specific titles....while that's a lot of effort to manage, it's something we've learned to work with. Point being, this technology/feature does exist elsewhere.

At the very least, it would be nice to have some kind of control that extends filters on actual content advertisements/previews, so for example if I choose to restrict the actual viewing of TV-MA content, then I won't receive any ads/previews for any TV-MA programs.

Re: Scary Image on Home Screen

There is more protection on this chat box than on my Roku for my kids is bleeps the name of the movie here but allows it on the Home Screen for my child? Roku needs their priorities straight. Maybe better to post this on social media channels to get more attention

Re: Scary Image on Home Screen

Hi @LisaS1,

Thanks for reaching out to the Roku community!

Can you please provide us with more specific information about the issue you are experiencing? What are you seeing on screen? Can you provide a screenshot of the issue you are experiencing? Where are you specifically seeing this ad? How exactly are they seeing the ad? Are you seeing these ads when you when logged into a Kids Profile?

Once we have this information, we will be able to investigate further.

Best regards,
Mary
