Roku downloading app without my request

I always return to Roku home prior to shutting down my streaming system.   Consisting of Roku Model 3920X (which is not shut off),  Yamaha RX-810 (shutdown), Sony Bravia HX929 (shutdown).

Today when I turned on my streaming system ROKU was downloading an app without my request.  The other day when I turn on my steaming system a movie was playing.  Is this normal???

I'm concerned that someone else is using my account.

Re: Roku downloading app without my request

Hi @stepper,

Thanks for posting in the Roku Community!

We recommend to Create a purchase PIN (Personal Identification Number) to limit who can access your Roku devices. Once a PIN has been created, it must be entered to authorize a transaction with the Roku Channel Store, make purchases or install a new channel.

How to access your PIN preferences:

  1. Visit my.roku.com from your computer or smartphone
  2. Sign in if prompted. For assistance, learn what to do if you forgot your email address or password.
  3. Under PIN preference, select Update

Does this clear up the issue you are seeing? Please keep us posted.

Best regards,
Mary

Re: Roku downloading app without my request

In addition to what Mary suggested, you probably are using one of the screensavers that has little advertisements floating by.  Make sure the first button you press on your remote isn't Play or OK or you'll get whatever is being advertised installed.  I don't know, but it may also start playing a movie from that advertisement as well.  Get in the habit of pressing Home or one of the arrow buttons when you first pick up your remote.

Or, switch to a screensaver that doesn't contain advertisements.
