I just got the Ultra, and I’m thrilled that I can play movies directly from my usb 4tb external hard drive. I’ve got 413 titles, and can’t seem to be able to search the drive using the * function. Am I missing something or is this as good as it gets? Either way, I’m completely satisfied even if I have to scroll.
If you are accessing your files through the Roku Media Player (RMP), the * button should present you a search box.
1. Launch Roku Media Player, select folder All or Video
2. Select Media Device (basically your Media Server, USB drive etc.)
3. When the screen appears (Folders) with all your content, you should now be able to press * button, and a little overlay box should appear with Search, Media Type, Sort, and OK as options. Select Search.
4. Upon selecting Search, the Roku Media Player | Search field box should appear. (looks like typical Roku Search box with numbers and letters). At the top of this box should be Artist, Album, Title, Genre. Normally, you should select Title. As you type, should start to see content appearing below box.
