Re: Guest mode default to 1969

@Pjobe  As I said Roku gets the information from your home network. A Roku does not know what day, time or month it is till it’s connected to the internet

Re: Guest mode default to 1969

And surely, the 1969 date wouldn’t even appear on a smartphone, because smartphones didn’t exist back then.  From my understanding, smartphones were first developed in the 2000s.  Today, major companies manufacture smartphones, and Apple Inc. co-manufactures their computer products with Foxconn (also known as Hon Hai Technology Group), Pegatron Corporation and Wistron Corporation.

Re: Guest mode default to 1969

Does it happen when you push the power button on the remote on the welcome screen?  This happens on our stream bars when you push the power button on the remote when the welcome screen is showing.  I've contacted support but they didn't seem to understand.  You can fix it temporarily by rebooting the Roku.

Re: Guest mode default to 1969

It doesn't seem to be a network issue in my experience, as it's only certain roku devices that will experience this bug - specifically we have TVs and Streambars on a mix of WiFi and wired connections and only the Streambars have the issue.  From what I can tell the devices are pulling the correct time, but they are bypassing normal setup and leaving the signout as 0 or null, and not installing the current "default channels" to the homescreen.

Especially since in my experience you can watch the thing bypass the guest mode welcome page by pushing the power button without the IR programmed.

---- also: this has apparently been an issue for close to THREE YEARS now.

Re: Guest mode default to 1969

Can confirm this issue on a Streambar. Hitting the power button on the remote before entering the checkout date sets it to 1969 when you turn the Roku back on. Nothing works correctly after this, not even selecting "Sign Out". Unplugging and plugging back in seems to fix the issue though.

This is such a pain for me and other Airbnb hosts and hotel owners. Switching to Google TV because of it.

Re: Guest mode default to 1969

I have the same issue - sometimes -when exiting Guest Mode early (when in guest mode: Guest Mode Options > Sign Out Now). Only powering off and on the ROKU stick fixes it. Very frustrating for my Airbnb!

Re: Guest mode default to 1969

@JTHouk
Thanks for the post.

We would be more than happy to look further into the issue for you.

Can you please provide us the following information:
-Roku device model, serial number, device ID, and software OS/version (these can all be found in Settings > System > About)
-tracker ID when this issue occurs (when you see this issue occur, press the Home button 5 times, followed by the Back button 5 times and provide us with this ID)
-steps to reproduce the issue you are seeing
Once we have this information, we will be able to pass it along to the appropriate Roku team to investigate further.

Thanks,
Danny

Re: Guest mode default to 1969

@RokuDanny-R

I'm still having this issue and I will hopefully remember to do this when I'm back at my rental but here's how to reproduce it-

1. Install Roku SOUNDBAR and set up your account. From what I read, it seems like this is only an issue with the Soundbar.

2. Set your pin & enter Guest Mode.

3. As a guest, start entering your sign-out date, and before completing this process, hit the power button on the remote.

4. Turn the TV back on with the power button. Guest mode will be set to 1969 or 1970 depending on time zone.

5. There is now no way to log out. The only solution for me has been unplugging for 30 seconds and plugging back in.
