Does ROKU work with a computer?

I am going to a vacation site with no TV, but I will have my computer.  Can ROKU attach to my computer for streaming?  (I can get some streams on my computer like YouTube.)  Do I need the ROKU?  And do I need any cables?

There could be exceptions, but HDMI ports on all computers I have used are output-only.
