I finally started a chat with support and learned that Roku 3 is no longer compatible with Airplay as of software version 14.1.4 and this will not be fixed going forward. The fix is to buy a new device. I'm less than thrilled, but wanted to let the others know that are also having the same issue.
So they apparently broke the app, then decided it was cheaper to write off a certain segment of customers rather than go to the expense of fixing the bug. Classy, Roku. Real classy.
For what it is worth, the guy at Best Buy said it was actually Apple that updated Airplay with a security feature that the Roku 3 was too old to handle. Regardless, my new Roku stick works just fine. Best wishes!
Thanks for the update, I too replaced mine last week with a Roku Express. AirPlay works fine now.
I have a Roku stick I take with me when I travel to plug into hotel TVs that I repurposed, and yup, it works great. And I suppose I'll hang onto the old 3 for a while. Nice to have a spare, even without ApplePlay.
