TCL tv and sound bar issue

I have a 55" TCL Roku tv and a Samsung soundbar. The sound bar is connected to the ARC HDMI plug with an HDMI cable. For some reason when I turn on the tv the sound bar doesn't turn on. Is there a special HDMI cable required? Any thoughts on this issue? If I turn the sound bar on manually via the remote that came with it, it works fine.

Re: TCL tv and sound bar issue

I believe you have to turn on CEC in the TV's settings for this to work. There is a section in the system settings to activate this.

Re: TCL tv and sound bar issue

As @scottypie1234 mentioned, you'll want to enable HDMI CEC settings on your TV, which should enable this functionality for you.

Visit Settings>System>Control other devices(CEC)>and try enabling 'ARC', and 'System audio control'.

Let us know if that helps get things on track!

Re: TCL tv and sound bar issue

I have the same issue with my TCL TV and my Vizio sound bar. I have applied the correct settings to enable HDMI ARC, I bought the latest HDMI cable, and I even did a total soundbar reset. Sometimes, the soundbar comes on but more often than not it doesn't. Any thoughts on this issue?

Re: TCL tv and sound bar issue

I have this same issue. The TV is connected to a Sony sound bar via the ARC output / HDMI.  When plugged into the sound bar, about 2 in 3 times when the TV is turned on, shortly after it connects to the external audio (I see the audio symbol in the upper right), the audio cuts out entirely.  No sound.  Other times, it only happens when the volume button is clicked up or down.  Other times it's totally fine.  To get it to come back on, we have to turn the TV off and back on.  Usually we just power down the sound bar, and the audio comes back out of the TV.  Definitely the experience I'm wanting for an $800 TV and a $250 sound bar.

Re: TCL tv and sound bar issue

Hello @hkyfan--did you solve this?  I spoke with TCL (TV manufacturer) and they said it's a hardware issue, which doesn't sound right to me.  I think it's a firmware issue, but haven't been able to get them to help me.

Re: TCL tv and sound bar issue

I had that problem early on with my TCL 55" and Yamaha soundbar.  I've had to unplug/restart my soundbar twice in 3 months, that always fixed it.  ARC is still a weaselly protocol.

Re: TCL tv and sound bar issue

I've tried a number of suggestions, but no success. I have a TCL Roku TV, and a Visio soundbar. The TV always gives me the message "Soundbar No signal (is it on?"). And yet, sound is definitely coming out of the soundbar. So, it seems to be functioning OK, except for that error message.

Re: TCL tv and sound bar issue

Had this exact issue today with TCL 65r615 and Samsung H60T soundbar. While troubleshooting, I noticed that the TV has no sound even when nothing is connected to HDMI ARC port. My previous setup for sound was 2 regular speakers with subwoofer through regular (headphone) jack, and what I noticed is my volume icon is showing headphones when I change volume using TV remote.

As someone suggested previously, I tried plugging on headphones again and was getting sound through then, but as soon as I disconnected them, the icon didn't change.

At some point, I also changed my Audio Settings turning off TV Speakers. My S/PDIF and ARC is now set to Dolby Digital DTS (DD  DTS Plus won't work, I tried)

ARC on HDMI 3 enabled in Settings>System>Control other devices(CEC).

I continued fondling with audiojack port and eventually the icon for volume changed, finally showing a speaker, not headphones. That's wat worked for me after all day of troubleshooting.

TLDR: When you change volume on TCL remote make sure the volume icon is showing speaker, not headphones. Disable TV Speakers in Audio, Set S/PDIF and ARC to anything that doesn't have word 'Plus' in it, make sure HDMI ARC is enabled.

Re: TCL tv and sound bar issue

TCL really needs to get their act together with their ARC hdmi port!

I have a TCL 55R615 and a TCL sound bar, Alto 7 with subwoofer...

One would ASSUME there would be complete compatibility between the companies own product line, but sadly no...

More often than not when I turn my tv on, I get NO sound output. Somewhere along the line I figured out that if I go to the sound bar and press the input button 1 time, the tv goes through a number of cycles back and forth between the sound bar and the tv speakers playing the audio.  It then settles on playing the audio through the sound bar.

Needless to say this is quite an inconvenient method of getting their own two products to play properly together.

The older I get the more annoying it becomes that manufacturers fail to ever test their products prior to releasing them to the public.  And fail to fix problems that they are well aware of which causes less than a satisfactory user experience.

Note I am a long time A/V home theatre guy who currently has 8 TCL televisions spread across 3 properties with just about every audio configuration you could imagine, including different brands of sound bars (Samsung, LG & TCL) Roku powered speakers w/ a roku subwoofer and finally a Denon 9.1 Atmos setup in my home Theater.

the ONLY configuration which doesn’t work right is the TCL tv and TCL sound bar setup.

Get it right TCL before your next flawed release.
