Re: TCL P605 backlight control setting and local dimming not working.

I am trying to adjust the backlight from the * menu.

I’ve tried to adjust it from both HDMI and Roku channels.

I’ve rebooted and factory reset it. I’ve also ran all the updates.

Thanks!

Re: TCL P605 backlight control setting and local dimming not working.

I'm having a similar issue on my P605. Depending on my input and picture mode I can't change my local contrast setting. I haven't had an issue with changing the backlight setting. I can't change local contrast on HDR Normal but I can on hdr dark and HDR bright picture modes. I can change HDR Normal local contrast in Roku apps like YouTube but not on my "computer" HDMI input. Tv is updated to 9.1.0 build 4917. Pretty frustrating that unavoidable automatic updates can break features on my TV and there's nothing I can do.

Re: TCL P605 backlight control setting and local dimming not working.

This is a major issue again as of build 4129.

I can't adjust local contrast on any input. It's clearly locked onto the highest setting even though I have it set as off across all inputs. I've done multiple factory resets, have checked for a new update about 25 times a day for the last two days, but nothing works. It's completely stuck in this subpar mode. I can't get any support from Roku or TCL via any avenue I have tried so far.

RE: TCL P605 backlight control setting and local dimming not working.

Ha! I was using the exact same convoluted "workaround." It eventually stopped giving me results. Definitely message Tanner, he was able to get me rolled back to an older firmware and it fixed my issue.

I'll give that a try! The last update before this one broke hdr for me, so it may take some goosing, hopefully Tanner can facilitate that.

Re: RE: TCL P605 backlight control setting and local dimming not working.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with this issue.  I've got an R617 but it has exactly the same issue with the backlight being "stuck" at 100 no matter what.  I noticed it after it updated to 9.2.0-4205.

TCL P605 backlight control setting and local dimming not working.

Just wanted to say the problem is still on my TV. I sent the team here videos and pictures of the problem and they stopped replying. They wouldn't allow me to try and revert to an older build either, so I'm just stuck with this flickering screen. Genuinely causes visual issues for my partner, so probably going to have to splash out for a new (non roku, obv lol) TV now.

@NumsBowl  Thanks for following up. The team is continuing to investigate the issue and work towards a resolution. I will follow up via private message to continue assisting as soon as I have an update to share.

Thanks,

Re: TCL P605 backlight control setting and local dimming not working.

I have exactly the same issue with a newly purchased 75R615. Backlight is on full blast regardless of any adjustments made to the backlight setting from any inpute source or screen. I've contacted TCL by email to no avail, and am currently on hold with their "customer support" personnel who have been no help or support at all so far for the past hour.

Would LOVE a solution...or this set is going back to Best Buy.

Thanks, Tanner and anyone else with any ideas.

Re: TCL P605 backlight control setting and local dimming not working.

@Musechaser Thanks for the note here. Please try checking for another system update in Settings>System>System update>Check now.

From there, you may also need to try resetting your TV's audio & picture settings in Settings>System>Advanced system settings>Factory reset>Reset TV audio/picture settings

Please let me know if this helps clear up the issue. If not, please send me a private message with your Roku TV's serial number from Settings>System>About, along with any other details about where you see this issue occurring. I'll continue assisting you from there.

Thanks,

Tanner
