Sharp Roku TV keeps muting AVR amplifier when TV switched off

I have a problem with a Sharp 43" Roku TV which keeps causing my amplifier to enter mute state when the TV is switched off. Often the amp is set to play audio from a different source while the TV is on, e.g. music, but every time the TV is turned off this becomes muted and has to be un-muted.

This happens when using the HDMI Audio Return Channel / ARC. If I disable this and use an optical link to take the audio to the amp instead then the problem stops happening.

I would like to use the HDMI ARC feature, is there anything that can be done to solve this problem?

The amp is a Teac AG-D200, essentially a rebadged Onkyo, similar to the TX-NR414 apparently.

    I have a problem with a Sharp 43" Roku TV running update version 14.1 which keeps causing my amplifier to go silent 12 minutes after the TV is switched off. I have tried disabling the HDMI ARC feature on the amp and switching to using the TV's optical output instead to get audio back to the amp, but the problem continues regardless. I suspect that the only way to stop it happening is to disconnect the HDMI connection between the TV and amp each time the TV is switched off - not an acceptable solution. No other device has caused this problem with this amplifier previously, including the previous TVs used with it.

    The only way to get sound back on the amp is to switch it to a different input, then switch it back again.

    The 12 minute period seems to be connected with the time when the TV transitions from what appears to be a "warm standby" state, using about 20W of energy, to a "cold standby" one when the TV uses around 0.4W instead. The lights on the USB media also all go off at this time.

    The same problem happened with update version 14.0.

    Can anything be done to stop this behaviour?

    Thanks for letting us know about this concern that you have with your Roku TV.

    A Roku TV might mute your AVR amplifier when switching off because of a setting on the TV called "Auto Power Off" or a similar function. This function sends a signal to the connected audio device (like your AVR) to also power down, often including a mute command to prevent noise spikes when the TV shuts off completely; this can be adjusted in your TV's audio settings.

      Hello,

      Your answer seems to be answering a different question / thread. The question is not about a situation when the TV is switched off but instead about something that happens 12 minutes later as described.

      For your information the amp does not get muted as trying to un-mute it does not work. The only solution is to select a different input source then set it back again.

      Auto power-off is not enabled on the amp.

      I have tried setting the TV to "HDMI compatibility mode" but it made not difference.

      It is a real pain as 12 minutes after the TV is switched off and other input sources are being used on the amp, everything suddenly goes quiet and it is the Roku TV causing it to happen.

        There were originally two separate threads with two separate questions, where these two threads seem to have been merged into one which is causing confusion as to which question is being replied to. Sadly neither question has been addressed and the problems continue.

        The problem with the amp cutting out 12 minutes after the Roku TV is switched off is the most obnoxious one and for now I have to change to switching the TV off by removing power at the wall socket so that it goes completely dead and cannot cause these problems. No other connected device has ever done this to the amp. I shouldn't have to be doing this and hope that the next software update will fix the issue.
