Roku TV Wireless Speakers vs TCL Roku Smart Soundbar?

Worth pre-ordering Roku's in-house wireless bookshelf speakers for Oct 2018 delivery?

Will the TCL soundbar -- also coming late 2018 -- be more expensive but have more features (microphones, hands-free processing, wider compatibility, separate subwoofer, etc)?

Re: Roku TV Wireless Speakers vs TCL Roku Smart Soundbar?

BTW the Roku-branded bookshelf speakers are sold in a bundle with both a Roku TV Voice Remote and a new Roku Touch tabletop remote (they want you to pair both in addition to your original Roku TV remote as a 3rd spare).  Hopefully the Roku online store will also sell both as extra accessories.

The first remote looks to be the one bundled with the 2018 TCL 6 Series and 5 Series televisions (perhaps with a change on the channel shortcut buttons) -- basically like the 2017 Roku Streaming Stick voice remotes RC127/RC150, plus an additional mute button.  This would be welcome as additional Roku TV Wi-Fi remotes have been spotty to find.

P.S.  Since Roku now encourages pairing multiple Wi-Fi remotes to one Roku, I wonder if the UI menu will start to expose more than the last 2 paired remotes?

Re: Roku TV Wireless Speakers vs TCL Roku Smart Soundbar?

Well, I pre-ordered the "Roku TV Wireless Speakers" since the $50 discount ends tomorrow (delivery late Oct 2018).  Pair of bookshelf speakers that links (via Wi-Fi) only to a Roku TV.  Bundled remote accessories with the push-to-talk microphones (none on the speakers themselves).

But I wonder how much more the "TCL Roku Smart Soundbar" (coming late 2018) will be though?  Soundbar + subwoofer, can work with any TV but also has Roku Connect integration, plus onboard hands-free voice assistant.  Are they targetting, say Sonos?

Re: Roku TV Wireless Speakers vs TCL Roku Smart Soundbar?

Good afternoon.  I just had my new Vizio SB362An-F6 soundbar installed under my new wall-mounted Hisense 43R7E 43-inch 4K Roku TV.  The soundbar is 2.1 with the subwoofer(s) built in.  Having only had the units mounted for about 15 hours, I can say everything works well together.  In fact, the Hisense remote controls the volume on the soundbar.  That surprised me a bit...but pleasantly so.

You can find these items at these links:  https://www.walmart.com/ip/VIZIO-36-2-1-Channel-Sound-Bar-System-SB362An-F6-2018-Model/742048861

Thanks for posting, that's a nice setup.  I take it then that your soundbar is connected to the TV using HDMI (ARC)?

Oh I didn't see the CNET blurb, that the TCL Roku Smart Soundbar might have been cancelled?

Roku TV Wireless Speakers could spell trouble for budget sound bars, Wi-Fi speakers

Roku representatives said that the system only works if you have Roku TV, and they wouldn't elaborate on whether they would pair with Roku streamers sometime in the future. The company did say that this is the start of a new ecosystem with rears and other add-ons planned.

beq.  No, the TV is connected to the soundbar using the Digital Optical Cable.

any idea as to why this works? my friend has the same outcome with a VIZIO soundbar connected with only an optical cable to her TCL Roku TV.

however when I purchased my TCL Roku TV and tried hooking it up via optical cable to my LG soundbar I could not use the Roku remote for volume and had to retain volume function through the LG soundbar remote, leaving me with 2 separate remotes which I dislike.

after doing some research online it seems that it is fact that you must connect through HDMI ARC to attain this feature. however for you and my friend that seems to not be the case, so I'm wondering if there is a special feature on the VIZIO soundbars that allow this to work and why my lg soundbar isn't having the same outcome.

tried contacting TCL support but they seemed stumped as well, going to contact Vizio next.

anyways, any one have any input on this?

EDIT:
very helpful reply from vizio.

"The Soundbar does have a special function called "VIZIO TV remote control" but It's only suposed to work with VIZIO TVs but every once in while it will work with other companies TVs."

aka a glitch lol. which I suppose makes sense because I had an LG tv before and that had no problem hooking up directly to my lg soundbar.

guess I'll just have to end up upgrading to hdmi arc..
