Roku TV: Amazon now shipping 48" TCL Roku TV to customers

Looking at Amazon this morning (Friday, 8/22/14) I see the 48" TCL Roku TV has gone from pre-order to available now and it can be ordered for delivery as early as tomorrow! Price is $499.99.

See it @ http://www.amazon.com/TCL-48FS4610R-48-Inch-1080p-120Hz/dp/B00K7NCS8M/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1408558...

Looks like the 40" and 55" models are still on pre-order status.

Anyone going to buy one of these?

What do you think of the Roku TV idea?

I don't know Brett,

If I were in the market for a new tv any way it would be more appealing.A new Roku 3 is what? 89 bucks on sale right now? This would be a much easier decision if knuckle wasn't sooo cheap Smiley Tongue I saw the pics of it though, looks nice -- If you run into Santa between now and Christmas mention my name

I bought a new TV last year but if I didn't I would have bought this thing in a heartbeat. The price is cheaper $329 for the 40" 1080p smart TV is less then what I paid for my Toshiba 39" 1080p not smart TV.

Absolutely. And if you run into Santa's older brother Murray between now and Chanukah please mention my name. Would be awesome to find a Roku TV placed under the Chanukah bush this year.

Does these TV's have a Ethernet port? I can't find if they do or not. I tend to avoid wireless when possible.

^ Specs. say duel band WiFi. No mention of Ethernet.
These days, I think the percentage of users that hard wire is dropping. I know I don't bother any more.

I too will not buy a connected device without an Ethernet connection (not that I'd buy one of these budget TVs anyway). I only use wireless for portable devices or in places where I can't run a wire. Hopefully they won't disappear altogether.

I agree. For the longest time I even resisted tablets because of their "wireless only" limitation. But I have finally purchased a couple mainly because of the need I have for some of the apps. I still connect all other devices I own wired and I will NEVER add a wireless only device to my setup unless I REALLY have a need for it and there is no other reasonable alternative. I do not have a wire-phobia like many folks. In fact I find a well ordered but complex wiring system reassuring. This is why the new Roku 1 and 2 will never darken my door. The overall reliability of wireless is just too low.

Also TVs like this one with stuff built in is just stupid. It is more reliable and more flexible to have the "smart" in devices that are external to the TV. And should the "smart" break and you want it fixed then you are without the TV for however long it takes to fix "smart." In a case like this "smart" is "stupid."

BTW mikeyts: I have never found a location where I can't run a wire.

Perhaps I should have said "locations where it's too expensive to have a wire run". I'm not the kind of handy person who can run wires long distances through walls and ceilings and electricians are loath to come out for as little as that, so you have to wait until you have other work for them.

I don't know... I have had pretty good luck with wireless and roku -- while nothing beats a wired connection if the tv would behave as my other roku units it wouldn't be an issue. That said if it does like some have reported about the interference on the stick it would be a huge pain
