Roku Live TV - Can't see OTA channels without antenna

Hi,

I have a TCL 40RS550K Roku TV in UK. I haven't connected it to any antenna but when I click Live TV, I only get the option of antenna scan and no other. Despite I am connected to Wifi, I don't ever see option to change source to OTA channels only. I don't want to see antenna channels but the 500+ OTA free international channels. I have tried many things but unable to see that option. Please kindly advice.

Re: Roku Live TV - Can't see OTA channels without antenna

OTA means "over the air" which implies an antenna. Have you tried some of the available apps (iPlayer, ITVX, etc.)?

There's also "Live TV" available in "The Roku Channel" app.

I'm not well versed in how TV works in the UK other than to note that it's very strange compared to how it is in the U.S., so maybe someone with more knowledge will chime in.

Sorry by OTA I mean the 500+ free channels that you get through the internet. I have a Hisense TV which is only connected to Wifi and when I open the Vidaa TV app, I can access 500+ free channels without any connected antenna. Hence I was expecting something similar from Roku TV to receive those channels without any antenna.

Re: Roku Live TV - Can't see OTA channels without antenna

I see.  From what I've been able to look up, it appears that the Hisense TV actually runs some kind of Vidaa OS.  It's appears to be exclusive to Hisense and I suppose a competitor to the Roku OS.  Roku has plenty of apps that offer free channels with "The Roku Channel" probably being the one most widely known/used.  I'm not sure what they offer in the UK, but Plex and Tubi are two other apps that I know of with free streaming (ad-supported) channels.  Roku is including more and more content from these other apps in their "Live TV" guide and there's no need to perform any kind of scan, but it gets confusing on Roku TVs where "Live TV" can refer to antenna (OTA) channels as well as streaming channels and I think there's two different icons that can appear on the Home Screen with the name "Live TV" as well as a left side menu option.  I'm guessing if you look around you'll find most if not all of those 500 channels, but they may not appear all in one place.
