Roku Express suddenly started HDCP Error Detected

Jump to solution

I see this is a common issue. Tells you something that I hadn't ever even heard of it, even though have had my Roku for probably a decade. Last watched my series maybe 3 or 4 days ago. Went to watch and cannot as keep getting this error. I will say we had a power outage, with some OCR blinking, a few mornings back. My PS4 wouldn't even turn on after, until I unplugged it from the wall for awhile.

So what gives? Have an older JVC tv, and this Express. Again, never have I once seen this before so seems a bit odd to suddenly be saddled with it.

Hi @gonilvo4,

Thanks for the first post to the Roku Community!

We understand you are having trouble with the HDCP error on your Roku device. We'd like to know what went wrong so that we can assist you further and help you fix the issue.

Please be aware that HDCP errors happen when there is a problem with the physical connection or communication between your Roku and TV. Often, it's a simple matter of reconnecting the HDMI cable and switching to a different HDMI cable.

If the error continues, visit our Support article for more suggestions for determining why or what to do if you see an "HDCP Error Detected" message or a purple screen.

Feel free to keep us posted, and we'll continue assisting you from there.

All the best,
Chel
