I have the TCL 50S425. Is there a way to record the HDMI input to a USB thumb drive for later viewing?
If not, are there any other options?
Thanks for the inquiry.
For more information about recording on a Roku TV, we would recommend taking a look at our Support page here: Can I download or record movies and TV shows?
Thanks,
Danny

ok... so the answer is no... I cannot record input from HDMI input to USB. Doesn't solve my inquiry.
Is there an alternative method to record input from HDMI input(s)?

No, and generally speaking, HDMI-connected devices use an HDCP copy-control handshake in a way where the receiving device must promise not to be a recorder or the sending device won't send.
Depending on the source of your content, playon, might do it: https://www.playon.tv/

I don't want to record anything from commercial broadcasters, cable, etc. I'm only wanting to record my laptop desktop screen for instructional technical videos on how to do various things in 3D drawing, 3D printing, etc. Doing this is much easier on my old eyes on a 50" screen.
ok, thanks anyway. I'll check out playon...
If you are creating videos from a computer there are several ways to record the screen on the computer itself.

or you can find several commercial apps.
If these are videos you already have, you can copy them to a usb drive or use a network server program like plex or emby to play to the roku client apps.
