I have a one year old Sharp TV with regular HDMI, no HDMI ARC. Bought a Roku Streambar yesterday. Using the optical cable with the HDMI cable gives me streaming capability with the Streambar. The sound from Roku channels play through fine. When I want to watch my cable TV service no sound comes through to the Streambar only the TV's speakers. What should I do? Do I have to return the Streambar?
Connected new Roku Streambar to an older Sharp TV (without ARC HDMI) using regular HDMI and optical cable. Now when we play programming through Roku, the sound plays through the Streambar, but when we use another source of programming like Fios "cable" TV, the sound goes through the TV speakers. Is there a way to make the sound for other sources come through the streambar? I don't see any sound setting in the Sharp TV setting menu or any way to use alternate sound output...
It might be the optical cable they do go bad, its glass it may break if bent. Or make sure its seated right at both ends?
Am I wasting my time in trying to get my cable tv service to play through the new Roku Streambar? The Sharp TV (one year old) only has "regular" HDMI and the optical output. I have the optical cable connected with the HDMI cable and I am getting sounds from ROKU channels playing and sounds are acceptable. I don't know how to get my cable service to play sounds through the Streambar instead of the TV speakers. Is it supposed to play the cable TV sounds or not? There is no description that clearly states this. I purchased the Roku Streambar to play all my TV services.
I am having the same issue. We just got the Roku Streambar and I have DEFINITELY set it up correctly. We have a Sharp Aquos TV also without HDMI ARC, so I have an HDMI cable and digitial optical cable connected as per the instructions. My understanding is that all audio should come through the Streambar once connected. When watching TV, should be able to hear it through streambar. I have setup the Roku remote to power on the TV under settings, and it will do that, but still no audio. I really need help here. I have searched high and low through every discussion thread, and have gone through You Tube how-tos galore. I think that this Roku Streambar might be going back, which makes me sad. When we watch streaming content the sound is as it should be. PLEASE CAN SOMEONE h.e.l.p.?
I got an early Christmas present from my daughter. She bought me a ROKU streaming bar. I attached it to my TV on HDMI port 4. I thought everything was okay until I went to play a DVD which was on HDMI 2.
The video will display on screen, but no sound from streaming bar or TV. I checked the sound settings for the TV and found the icon for sound, but the menu to control the sound had been locked out and I am unable to change anything. There is no plug in for a DVD player on the streaming bar. I tried reset on the TV but nothing changed.
How do I re-enable the HDMI ports to carry sound and picture?
Thanks for the post.
We would recommend taking a look a the information provided by our Support page here: Streambar setup with a non-Roku TV
If you are still unable to resolve the issue, please provide the serial number of your Roku device from Settings>System>About? I'll be able to assist you further from there.
Thanks,
