Re: How to get Pornhub on my Roku device

Jump to solution

I do have to say Roku removing personal channels and regulating any kind of content material is a awful move- Roku's initial enchantment become that anyone who desired an app on Roku website should have one. "Adult" content being delivered privately and now not being at the channel store become a decent way to preserve that stuff from appearing for each person who didn't want to peer it.

Right? I see this as Roku shooting themselves in the foot in the short term at least. their competitors being android based can install pornhub with a little bit of effort. and I have thought for a while that Roku needed an Adult section in their channel store that requires a pin to even access. making it so a pin is required for each channel as well also makes sense. somehow I doubt Roku is going to do this even though it is the smart thing to do.

That's not the solution at all because e.g we love to watch porn with my wife together. It's a stupid move to deny access to porn movies on Roku devices, my decision is to leave it to my son and buy another serious device for adult people.

It's gone .. poof.

Porn links change/vanish as often as I change my clothing.  Using a PC for porn and casting it with Chromecast is much more reliable.  Roku and porn no longer mix as Roku has blocked private channels.

Yup....  that was THE ONLY EDGE they had over the competitions..

SHAME ON THEM.....

My little worthless roku box is heading to the dumpsters along with roku!!!

I’ve been a long time Roku investor and when I heard they were banning Pornhub I sold all my Roku stock. Censorship sucks.

The most requested feature for Roku is some form of user controllable content control, e.g. pin control to show channels and content with mature ratings.

Starting with basic family friendly features that control what Roku controlled adverts are displayed in user interface and in content.

Some channels allow linking to multiple accounts with different ratings, watch lists etc. (E.g. Netflix, BBC iPlayer) but not implemented across the device/ecosystem.

A large number of people watch porn together, with wives, girlfriends, husband's, etc. Perhaps you should watch more porn with your significant other, as you seem to be missing out on the fun.

Who says I don't use them or like them? How do you know the PornHub app wasn't on my Roku last night and then gone this morning, removed by Roku?

Your statements are indicative of the problem. You are making assumptions that are not based on the facts. That's not to say there's not a germ of truth here and there in what you right, but you are still writing based on incorrect information or assumptions.

Roku is not doing away with the functionality as intended. But, because of the abuse of the system by developers, Roku is cracking down on things. They are wiping away the mess that it has become, and starting anew, with a new name for it that more accurately reflects the original intent. They are enforcing both a time limit (120 days) and a user base (20 users) for development. That's what is changing, and why.

Roku never supported PornHub nor VidAngel (the other group that's grabbed their pitchforks and stormed the castle). Roku has a way for developers to put an app before the public while it's tweaked and submitted. It's for no other purpose but that. Roku was very lenient in how the process was used, but the intent was that. So what happened? Companies like PornHub, VidAngel, and others decided to use that system as a permanent solution. They abused the system.

Here's an analogy you won't like. Imagine it's Halloween and you have a nice house, a nice yard, and some really good candy set aside for Trick or Treaters. You have good stuff. Not those tiny candies like you find at Dollar Tree, but full size Snickers bars. Really good stuff. You tell the Trick or Treaters they can have one. One. But some take more than one. Word gets around the neighborhood and more and more come by and take more than one. Some take a handful.

Now, the next year, they come back. And the next. And the next. They're grown, bringing their own kids now, and not only do their kids take full size Snickers bars, they take them too. Handfuls.

Years have gone by, these people have abused your Halloween candy policy for all these years. Finally, you say, "Enough." And you put a stop to it. Maybe you even go so far as to buy Snickers Minis. Or switch to Jolly Ranchers. And the next Halloween, these Trick or Treaters stand in your yard and yell at you for being mean.

The VidAngel crowd yells at Roku for dropping support of the app. Roku never supported the app. The app developers abused the Roku system, and Roku stopped it. The PornHub crowd is yelling at Roku for removing their app. Roku never approved the app to start with. PornHub abused the system by running on a process it was never designed for.

Roku never allowed either app in, and now they're making a big stink about being escorted out.

@DBDukes there's no need to get hostile. Obviously though, the way you're defending roku and criticizing pornhub and vidangel users, makes you sound like you don't like the platforms.

Yeah, I can see roku wanting to get rid of pirate channels, but pornhub abusing the private channel thing? Get real, if roku never wanted their platform used like that in the first place, roku should of made the rules clear from day 1, not moving the goal posts and getting mad later.

On another note, what does roku lose financially by letting people access an internet site's content for streaming? If anything it sells more Roku devices by giving viewers more options to view content, or makes it more convenient.

There's a symbiotic relationship that was occurring that benefited all parties. If there was a problem, it could have been discussed and a compromise met.
