ARC Broken After OS Upgrade on Roku Streambar?

I'm using a Roku Streambar with a relatively old TV but until a few days ago, there was the ability to control the volume with either the TV or Roku remote controls. This stopped working a day or so ago and after checking a few details (all the cables are plugged in), I noticed that there was a Roku OS upgrade a few days ago which matches the timeline of the problem.

I have an older TV (Samsung) where it's necessary to use both the HDMI and Digital Audio connectors but up until a day or so ago, I had no problems. I could use either the Roku remote or the Samsung remote to control the volume of the Streambar (and the TV volume was 0). Now each remote controls each device independently.

On checking the Settings > System > Control Other Devices, it says that ARC settings should be in Settings > Audio > Audio Output. See bottom right in screenshot.

However, if I go to Settings > Audio, there is no Audio Output

To me, it looks like the update has broken ARC settings on the Streambar. Or have I missed something?

Regards,

Andrew

@GilbertRyle

Thanks for the post.

Can you please clarify the issue you are experiencing?

Please be aware that the Roku Streambar only supports the device remote controlling the volume.

With more detailed information, we will be able to assist you further.

Thanks,

@RokuDanny-R

Thanks for the reply. Contrary to your comment, it *is* possible for the TV remote to control the volume of the Streambar - it works with my somewhat old Samsung TV and its remote control.

The good news is that I had a bit more of a fiddle over the past few days and more through dumb luck rather than anything else, I seem to have managed to fix the issue to do with the remote controls and now both the TV and the Roku remote control can control the Roku Streambar (and the TV volume at zero).  So from, that point of view, I'm happy.

However, there still seems to be discrepancy regarding the missing ARC settings in the original screenshots. The first shot says that there should be ARC settings under audio, but when you go to Audio, there are no ARC settings.

That only applies to Roku tv's. Not for Roku streambars and soundbars where the arc and optical inputs are always on, nothing to turn off. If it quits working it usually means the tv no longer recognizies it as a cec device, refresh the cec devices in the tv settings.

I agree with Andrew. Mine used to also work also with Soundbar and old Samsung. It stopped working this week.

I did manage to get it working again but I can't say exactly what I did. It was a combination of rebooting the Roku, powering off the TV and unplugging cables. I didn't have to reset the Roku. Good luck!

Re: ARC Broken After OS Upgrade on Roku Streambar?

I’ve had the same thing with a Streambar and Samsung TV. I got the TV/Roku back in sync by taking out the cables and putting them back in, but the problem has reoccured a few days later.

The TV Off command on the Roku menu also no longer works, and the power button on the Roku has no effect, so programmes continue to play (but the TV turns off).
