Possible to replace Direct Publisher with Custom SDK Channel?

I have a client who has a "Direct Publisher" channel and would like to replace their channel with a custom SDK channel.  Is there a process for doing this so that users of the existing Direct Publisher channel would receive the update and be then using the Custom SDK channel?
