Closed captions do not appear in player with custom ui

Is it possible to display subtitles using a player with a custom ui?

I have disabled the default UI with the enableUi field of the player and according to the documentation this does not affect the subtitles

Re: Closed captions do not appear in player with custom ui

I just tried it and I got subtitles, so I guess the first question is do the subtitles work if you don't disable the UI? I don't know if it matters, but my video is fullscreen and I'm on software version 11.5.
