I've had Sony Blu-ray players. Recently the player's streaming feature has gotten more and more flaky- slow, locking up, etc. I've considered for years to switch to Roku- but the only time I saw a Roku at a friend's house- I wasn't impressed- not realizing it must have been one of the earliest versions. So, I just got a Roku Ultra and was pleased to find how easy it was to set up. It's far superior to the blu-ray player's streaming features. I mostly watch Netflix and Tubi (Tubi stopped working on the Sony player- even a new one I bought then returned)- and I like all the free shows.  I'll certainly recommend it.

I stopped using my Sony BD player for streamed a couple of years ago. Their DLNA support has gotten worse with each new player, and since the majority of our home viewing is from my DLNA server it wasn't cutting it anymore. I've been using Roku players for years, and have the latest Ultra (4800) in my family room. While I don't use a Roku much anymore for local media (can't beat the Nvidia Shield for that), it's still my go-to player for online streaming providers, such as HBO Max and Prime Video.

The Sony is still connected to the bedroom TV, but it's only there on the off chance something goes awry with my media server and I'm out of town, so the wife can just stick a disc in if necessary.

I am glad you are enjoying your new Roku device.  The newer ones perform better than the older ones.  I have had my own since 2018.  With only one drastic Factory Reset during that time period, I have never experienced any major issue with the device itself.  Just with operator error!
