Wonder Woman 1984 / HBO Max Reviews (SPOILERS)

The combined streaming services that can be watched through Roku get thousands of movies so normally I wouldn't suggest flooding Roku's forums with reviews of movies.

However, I think Wonder Woman 1984 stands out for several reasons:

(1) It was promoted as the must see movie event for all of 2020

(2) It was used to promote signing up for HBO Max

(3) It was promoted as what to expect from 17 additional movies on HBO Max in 2021

(4) AND... until the very last moment, it looked like there would be no HBO Max for Roku when it was released.

Given it's status (and drama leading up to it) on the Roku forums, I wonder what people thought of it.

Since HBO Max has already removed it, I thought most people that wanted to see it have already done so which I am hoping means spoilers shouldn't be a problem.

So, what did people think of it?

Did it live up to the hype?

If HBO Max wasn't released for Roku when it was, would it have been worth telling other Roku customers to buy yet another device to see it?

Was WW1984 good enough to be worth $69.99 for 6 months of HBO Max?

I will add my review later as I don't want to bias the thread.  If people loved it then that is great.  If people hated it, I am interested in that too.

WW1984, Waste of 2.5 hours and not worth 69.99 for 6 months

Re: Wonder Woman 1984 / HBO Max Reviews (SPOILERS)

It didn't wow me. It was just OK. Perhaps the Marvel movies have spoiled me.

Since I get Max included with my cell phone service, the cost was not a factor to me. I binged watched Westworld, and have browsed a few other titles. I'm not certain I would bother paying for Max if I didn't get it already.

It was meh.

I paid for HBO Max for Godzilla vs Kong, tho.

And True Detective, Flight Attendant, The Undoing, etc.

Re: Wonder Woman 1984 / HBO Max Reviews (SPOILERS)

I agree there is other content on HBO Max that might be worth the price for specific people.

It was just that WW1984 seem to be framed by WarnerMedia marketting as the "killer" content.

I did enjoy the beginning of the movie (which seems to get mixed feeling from other reviewers).  I think it could have set the tone for a powerful movie similar to the first one.

After that, we aren't just asked to have a suspension of disbelief, the movie demands the viewer to accept that the movie isn't consistent with the rules of it's own universe.

Hopefully this is not the end of the DC universe movies.  I really enjoyed the first Wonder Woman movie.

In terms of Adam Wingard's Godzilla Vs. Kong, this appears to be a remake of King Kong vs Godzilla (1962).

To help set expectations for that movie, I recommend seeing Adam Wingard's Blair Witch (2016) which is his remake of The Blair Witch Project (1999).  It is available for free on IMDbTV.

Or if you have Netflix, you can see Death Note (2017) which is Adam Wingard's live action movie remake of the anime tv series of the same name.
