Recycle Program

I have 3 models that basically worthless now and Roku has no Recycle program. The models are collecting dust. However I do not wish to send them to a landfill as they do work. I have made the decision to not invest in another Roku because of this and hope that one day Roku will improve for the betterment of our environment. I will utilize an android box till then.

There's no e-cyling where you live?

Re: Recycle Program

Very few manufacturers of any kind directly recycle their own products. But as @Strega mentioned, you can find a way to recycle electronic items almost anywhere. Check this page to see what can be recycled and locate a recycling location.

Re: Recycle Program

It's obvious depends on the area, somewhere more somewhere less, but if you will try I am sure you will find some recycling factory in your area.

Re: Recycle Program - ROKU

100% agree with you on this. At the very least, ROKU should add some language on the product box & on their website to inform customers to take streaming sticks to eWaste recycling centers. BUT, ROKU should really have a recycle program of its own. They have the $$$ to do so.

Is there a factory recycling system for your android box?

Why do you feel its necessary for Roku? That's simply an honest question. If companies support national e-recycle programs, which almost all do, why should they have something of their own?

Re: Recycle Program - ROKU

There are cases where a corporate recycle plan can be useful.  For example, HP has had a laser toner cartridge recycling program which I think is quite sensible since much of a toner cartridge can be used over and over and many businesses are probably swapping them out monthly.

On the other hand, Roku, not really being a consumable device (like toner), is not so obvious.  Ie: after a decade or so, you send you Roku back (using packaging and generating emissions) and they get your 10-year-old device in a case style that they no longer use with chips that are obsolete and what do they do?  I assume they would take it to the same kind of e-cycling place that you would.

atc98092 - Free eWaste events in my area of the country takes place every year during Earth Day. Most eCycle programs charge for tech devices, so I pay for it rather than tossing it in the trash. My opinion. You have yours.
