Problems trying to log into Community forums

On and off for the past few days, it's taken a few tries to actually get into the forums. After login, it will often take me to the general forum list screen instead of the subscribed list I normally go to. And it's not actually logged in. I have to try a few times before I get into the forum properly logged in.

The Roku community forums have always been very slow and sluggish, and it's only getting worse.

@andyross
Thanks for the post.

Have you tried clearing your browser cookies and cache to see if that helps?

Please keep us posted what you find out.

Thanks,
Danny

Re: Problems trying to log into Community forums

Andyross,

The forums have been running fast from my house. I am using my phone to type this message. I have a samsung galaxy s21 5g and my laptop is an hp with 16 gigs of ram, amd ryzen 6 processor with an Intel wifi 6 card. My isp is verizon fiber optic with 300mbs download and upload speed. I have a wireless 6 router too.

By slow, I mean it can often take a few seconds before it loads a page or otherwise respond. All other forum and similar are nearly instant.

Re: Problems trying to log into Community forums

I normally use Firefox, but tried Edge on Windows, and had a similar issue where it took a few tries before it logged in. There is a small banner that pops up says I have been automatically logged out, even though I just logged in!

Re: Problems trying to log into Community forums

I've experienced the same issue with the login screen. Even after a computer reboot (so the cache is cleared) I've had to click login 4-5 times on occasion. And other times it works as expected. Might be a flaw in the Captcha.

Re: Problems trying to log into Community forums

It's hard to say if it's the Captcha, or if the community login has to talk to the Roku login service, and that may be slow or having issues.

Re: Problems trying to log into Community forums

I haven't had any issues for a couple of days, so it appears they've resolved the problem.

Re: Problems trying to log into Community forums

I also haven't run into the issue lately.

When I have run into the problem, it seems to be an issue with the single sign on (SSO) server of auth.web.roku.com rather than a problem with Khoros community website.  It seems to be a problem with the flow of Oauth.  When the problem comes up, I can recreate it while in incognito mode so having an empty cookie jar does not help either.

I am kind of surprised Oauth is still being used.  I feel it hasn't aged well as a protocol and there are a number of known issues.  It might be switching to OpenID Connect or SAML would help clear things up if that is possible.

Re: Problems trying to log into Community forums

Just today, I did have the issue where after login, it sit at the going to community screen for longer than normal, then went to the generic community screen with 'login' in the upper right. I again tried to go to my regular subscribed community list, which then came up as normal.
