Well thats what happens when you talk down over 2 decades of daily IT work.
The implication that a firmware update is causing your problem, in the face of millions of others with the same firmware, device, and general configuration who have no issue, is directly evident that we are failing to pass on GENERAL knowledge. The implications of this cant be overstated.
Remember this thread is titled "Please stop trashing Roku."
Back in days companies would say only update firmware if you have a problem, so if you broke it i can see putting blame on a user. Now its required to update it, so Roku should always replace device if bricked by firmware.
Obviously, we've mistaken Roku for somebody who gives a . . . flip.
This place is crazy. Im new to Roku. My aunt kicked down a 12 year old Vizio and a Roku 3. I plugged it all in and it works fine except for one local news channel with HDCP errors. I come here to see if I can find some help. What do I find? Spaghetti Recipes! That's what I find. JFC. So anyway after finding many posts concerning my particular error, I read that the remedies are all the same canned BS, check your hardware, the cables, the tv set etc. There is nothing wrong with these elements. Every other channel and piece of connected hardware works perfectly fine. Now a new update comes just yesterday, 10.5 or something. Now it works fine. Wtf.
I'm eating my popcorn reading these hilarious forums as they are so entertainingly dysfunctional.
Perhaps a clarification is in order here. I did not just post "Spaghetti recipes"-or the "Japanese Curry" one which you forgot to list-only for the sheer fun of it. I just became far too disgusted with all the complaints constantly bombarding anyone who visited here. I wanted to post something a update could not fix. A actual uplifting real alternative to all this constant depressing negativity and undue constant complaining.
With a far more productive way of human to human or human to device interaction via a healthy expression of actual real cooking. Something way beyond microwave nuked, cheap margarine soggy soaked sad excuse for something trying to pass as "popcorn."
Even you admitted the later version's own update solved your present issue. You did not have to lift a finger if you just gave Roku a simple chance and allow a little time to pass to let Roku do it's job as updating is not really all at once instantaneous. It rolls out over particular geographic points over time.
Though I do not think any version will fix your potential future heart attack/stroke when you are older. That is where the recipes come in and have a place here.
If they had ACTUAL customer service maybe we wouldn't have to. I've never seen anything like this - they push out an update that trashes people's systems and we have no way to get resolution. Brand new stream bar is a glorified paper weight now.
I am listening to music on my soundbar as we speak. Why didn't the update screw up my soundbar? You need to file a warranty claim if your device is still under warranty.
Not a sound bar - the StreamBar and it is totally bricked. Lucky you that your's isn't but doesn't change the fact that you can't get any customer service beyond a community posting board.
Not true about having to rely on the support community.
