Is my new Roku Express defective?

I have a dual band router. I bought a brand new, out of the box Roku Express which cannot make an internet connection with one band it can connect to wirelessly but the Roku Express cannot even find the second band, while other devices can connect to both bands. The router in 2 inches away from the Roku and the Roku does show both bands of other 2 band routers in the vacinity, but cannot locate the higher speed band on my router. Is it safe to assume the Roku Express is the problem?

Another thing to check is if your access point has any settings that limit/restrict access for the connected devices. Now normally this would allow Internet access, but block any access to your internal network. But it's also possible (though not too likely) there's a setting that permits internal access but not to the Internet. Some also have time-based restrictions on when devices can connect to the Internet. Lots of variables unfortunately. Different routers/access points have completely different settings, so I can't really suggest anything too much more detailed. 

Have you tried the Express on some other Internet access, such as a phone hotspot? If that works, then there's likely nothing wrong with the Express.

The Express doesn't support 5 GHz WiFi. 2.4 GHz only. The Express has never had a dual band wireless radio. Of the currently available devices, only the Stick and the Ultra supports 5 GHz.

Thanks, that answers why it can't find the 5G band, any clue as to why it won't connect to the other band?

Sorry, I thought your post was it was connected to one band but not seeing the other. Does it see the access point, but can't connect? That might mean your password has a special character that Roku doesn't recognize. They seem to only like letters and numbers. 

And if your access point is only two inches away from the Roku, it actually might be too close. Try moving a bit further away.

I get a wireless connection but it won't connect to the internet, I don't use any special characters in my PW.

I have been moving both the router and the Roku. They were originally about 6 feet apart.

I am able to connect to the internet on other devices on that band, I have tried connecting the Roku with my phone and PC connected to the 5 Ghz band

I appreciate your help!
