Google to buy Roku and unite it with Chromecast

Looks like this will happen. It seems like a perfect fit to me.

Time to buy Roku stock.

I was just out of town and stayed at many different Hotel/Motels.

My God cable is beyond awful. Spectrum/DirectTV...... BARF!!!!! PATOOIE!

So much more available on ROKU...I believe the Net is the future and streaming

services are a natural fit.

Re: Google to buy Roku and unite it with Chromecast

This could be great.  Rokus may get Mirroring Chromecasting working smooth !!!  Chromecasts might get Roku channel support ?

OR

Google could end any new Chromecast or Roku products ... huh very bad for consumers.  I doubt Google would continue to invest in both Chromecast and Roku devices.

Roku 3 for Pokémon TV / YouTube / Animal Planet GO / HBO MAX. Chromecast for most other media because Roku Mirroring sucks , how many clicks in Wndows 10 (about a dozen) to Miracast on Roku vs 2 with Chromecast.

No I'm sure if the deal goes through they will be united as one.

I think its a natural fit so we'll see.

Re: Google to buy Roku and unite it with Chromecast

Interesting idea.  I hope it'll never happen.  I like having 2 completely separate OS & devices.  During the recent lockdown, most people piled onto Roku.  I bypass the crowd by using the Chromecast when my Roku just buffered one time too many.  I prefer the Roku. But sometimes well..........

I think this is a TERRIBLE idea!  I do NOT want Roku to be part of Google!

That comment is for the executives, just in case they decide to make their decision based on a random internet forum post!  Smiley Wink

https://www.fool.com/investing/2020/06/16/roku-trades-higher-on-google-acquisition-rumors.aspx

According to that article, it's not even a credible rumor at this point.

“The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and goodwill, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper, and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee!”

Re: Google to buy Roku and unite it with Chromecast

These rumors have been swirling for a while - I have yet to see any source with a reason as to why this suddenly gained traction yesterday.

While it would be a big net gain for Google, it would also be a bit odd in that they've just spent a ton of money on trying to reinvent Android TV yet again.  Then again, Google did go after FitBit after its last repackaging of Watch OS, so who knows.

Re: Google to buy Roku and unite it with Chromecast

Could be good or could be bad. Since Google got involved with YouTube I can't keep my YouTube account logged in to my newer Roku. I have to keep entering the code on my PC. My old Roku works fine but that was logged in through YouTube not Google. Obviously Google dropped the ball somehow.

@jhande

Some people have reported having Youtube and YoutubeTV installed side by side

even though you only use one or the other seems to iron some problems out.
