My 4 year old just got terrified of a Child's Play ad (Chuckie) on the home screen. I searched in hopes that I could find a way to remove the scary image. But all I found was that other parents have made the same suggestion and Roku still has not found a solution for not terrifying their young viewers. Could we not have a way to chose a less offensive ad? Thanks for the tears and nightmares Roku.
I agree! I posted about this 2 years ago and got only a little reprieve by putting a parent control on it that makes even my husband sign in for live TV every 2 hours (and moan and groan about it).
Finally, yesterday someone posted a solution to put it in test mode! It’s working!!!
This does occur every year because of Halloween and Roku should consider placing some Home Screen profiles in place in a future update, but until then, perhaps parents can actually work the Roku and start their children's programs for them.
An adult can probably navigate the home screen much faster than a child and get past the ad before the kiddo even gets a chance to see it.
The last time there was a large outcry about some perceived scary or violent ads, Roku made some adjustments. For the next couple of weeks, I had to look at Teletubbies and Spongebob looking characters on my home screen ads regardless of what time of day it was.
There is never going to be a consensus on what should be displayed on the home screen. Horror/suspense movie ads are great for me as I like this genre. Roku simply needs to allow users to select either a User profile or an Ad profile (at least for time periods of the day).
I have to assume this is under consideration as there is no way Roku is unaware of these concerns.
In addition to the thoughts of @AvsGunnar let me suggest that you add your voice to those that have utilized the Suggest A Feature page.
Roku really needs to do something about this situation.

Roku's aren't toys.

I've experienced the same issue -- it would be nice to set a 'G', 'PG', 'PG-13' rating for ads on the home screen.
It's not acceptable to assume that every viewer/user is an adult.
Come on, people. Think back before all this fancy parental control software and apps even existed. What did you or your own parents deal with something that offended or even frightened them?
Now think real hard and it will come to you. You (or them) got up and changed the channel. Or even turned the boob tube off. If you were at the local movie, even live play, theater, you got up and left.
I am wondering why all of you demanding solutions that you should be doing for yourselves or your own children. What happend to self reliance?
I just received an erotica LGBT movie as an ad with two women naked from the chest up kissing on my child’s TV! This is unacceptable.
Roku is very hypocritical. Back in February they banned adult channels on all Roku devices by removing the ability to add private channels any longer. They clearly are against pornography and don't think that adults should have the right to decide whether or not we can add adult channels to our Roku devices if we choose.
Yet at the very same time Roku has absolutely no problem showing explicit ads on the home screen that children will see or in the search results (some of which are actually designed to specifically target kids) as long as those sexually explicit ads are pushing forth the LGBT agenda.
Sadly this isn't just a Roku problem, it's literally happening everywhere, it's an attack on our children in an attempt to indoctrinate them to accept this agenda by normalizing it at an early age and it has to stop. This is all being pushed by extreme left wing ideologues in control of Hollywood, you see it clearly in nearly every single TV show and movie produced today.
The CW and Disney are major purveyors of this agenda and are some of the worst offenders. Parents (and all adults that care about children) need to let Roku know this is absolutely unacceptable. These type of ads are inappropriate to be shown and need to go. Not just to protect children, but also so adults who don't want to see them do not have to have them forced either.
Thanks for the post. I'm sorry to hear about the experience—that's not what we aim for.
Can you please provide more details about the incident? What channel were you watching and what content were you streaming? Where did the ad show up on screen?
With more detailed information, we will be able to investigate the issue further.
Thanks,
Danny
