Way too little too late - broken roles of roku

Dear Roku,

Earlier this year you broke my trust in the Roku brand, when you decided to be a gatekeeper instead of a streaming device. Shame on you for trying to control what I view. Shame on you for changing the terms of my device.

This experience has shown me several things about Roku.

  • I will NEVER purchase a Roku device ever again. as roku service is not going to dictate what I can watch or not watch. HBO Max was ready to run on roku, but you made it NOT available.
  • I am quite pleased with Android TV on my Shield device.
  • I will never make ANY purchase of any kind of content through roku EVER again for the rest of my life.
  • I work in the tech industry. I am in a position to make recommendations to people regarding streaming devices. Roku will not be in any of my recommendations.
  • I have since purchased to Nvidia Shield devices, and they are great.

Just too little, too late. Shame on you roku.

Bye. Hope you enjoy whatever else you buy, thinking that somehow that company cares about your feelings.

I'm not worried, thanks. Based on your post, you have a lot to learn if you think Google is going to somehow provide you with better service. Enjoy!

Re: Way too little too late - broken roles of roku

Roku has a lot to improve. All providers do (and it isn't just the providers, the apps are WORSE now than even 10 years ago (they are optimized for 4" screens rather than home theatres). But saying "bye, never see you again) is a drop in the ocean. The Nvidia Shield is a drop in the ocean as well, and will be a smaller drop as time goes by even though your post is obviously a commercial for it. Now that I think of it, I'll just report your post as spam.

So, bye...

I could give a flip what you think. If you think that being petty by reporting an obvious statement to Roku (it does say DEAR ROKU, not fan boy dfgsrzwer) as spam....have fun with it. It does not change the fact that Roku has become something it was not, and it has become offensive to many.

OMG. I'm not  fanboy. Roku is just doing what everyone is is doing, and it was obvious I was critical of that in my post, unlike your endorsement in YOUR post. I was offended by your endorsement, as Nvidia is no better than Roku. And I still reported your post as spam, as I can be "petty" just just you coming here and being a drama queen is petty. So...neener, neener.

All joking aside, I simply stated in less uncertain terms what those above me said. "Life's a Bit ch, and then you die." Get over it.

But wait... you said you were leaving, but instead you replied to me. That means you are a Drama Queen, so the spam report is justified. You could have just left without making a crisis of it (as this has been going on for decades), but instead you decided your complaint was unique. On top of that, you lie about another service that does basically the same thing. "Meet the new Boss, same as the old Boss."

Re: Way too little too late - broken roles of roku

I use two Shield players, and they are certainly more capable than any Roku player. But that comes with a price. And as good as the Shield is, it still doesn't have "everything". Roku never promised to always have all available providers, nor does any other streaming player. But will I get rid of my Roku players, or recommend against them? No, I won't. For one thing, they are the easiest to use of any player I've ever seen. Yes, they're easier to use than a Fire TV, and much easier to setup and use than a Shield. I don't recommend the Roku Express, as there's simply too many wireless problems reported. But the Premiere or higher I have no problem recommending.

At this time, there simply is no single player that offers "everything". Yes, the Shield is as close as it comes, but it starts at $150, far, far higher than a Roku Premiere or Stick. I got my Shield players for streaming my local media. Roku has limited codec and container support, while the Shield plays everything* (there are still a few things that the Shield can't play, but they're not common codecs). And it's always possible that something available on a different platform suddenly disappears as well. There are no guarantees with things like this.

Hear, hear...Smiley Wink

Again, all jokes aside, use what you like. If you don't like it, don't use it. I was again going to edit my above reply (and I was starting...starting... to get angry at haxxsaw, but you defused it), but what you said is good enough.

@haxxsaw  yeah Thanx for sharing.

Roku has been my only source of Media Viewership for years now.

Your rant doesnt include any real details of what youre upset about.

I've experienced very few problem and am on my 4th Roku.

You sound like a bratty teen poser trying to sound relevant. Youre not.
