Re: Politics

I use ROKU to stream my cable apps when I'm not at home but have access to a Roku TV. (many times per week for the entire day) I can't believe I'm paying to watch Political ads!! I'm sure networks/cable companies and likely Roku get mega bucks to air these ads. If the ads were honest it might be different but many of them are obviously doctored video. They also repeat at every break, sometimes showing the same ad back to back! I repeatedly mute the sound so at least I don't have to LISTEN to them. Please make it STOP!!

Re: Politics

The ads are being placed by the channel you are watching. Roku is not putting them there. I've never seen a political ad on the Roku home screen, which is the only place Roku has control other than The Roku Channel. If you're seeing them there, you have a gripe with Roku. But if you're within any channel other than The Roku Channel, then Roku is not responsible for the ads you are seeing. Take it up with the provider of the channel you are watching.

Advertising on Roku

The Roku advertising has been sold to the Democratic National Committee.   I didn't realize how much advertising time is sold.   I am sick of hearing about Joe Biden and the lies he is spreading with all these one-after-another political ads.

Re: Advertising on Roku

Its not Roku at all. Its the Channels.

Re: Advertising on Roku

Channels just use some ad provider and have little to no control over the ads that are shown (and really don't care as long as they're making money).  If the ads seem one-sided then that side has more money to spend on advertising.  Personally, I'll take all the money any candidate wants to give me, but my ad provider sucks.  :-(

Disgusted by every other ad being political!

Why can’t you pay for commercial free like Hulu does? I’ve had it with all the political ads!

Re: Disgusted by every other ad being political!

In the majority of cases, Roku doesn't provide or control the ads. Yeah, I'd like them all to just go away. I just use services that don't have ads, such as Netflix, Prime Video, or watch content from my personal media server.

Repetetive Ads and Political Bias

OK I know there are posts about this topic. But what I have seen in them is a lack of legitimate response, and mostly no response, just closing the thread.

I have contacted certain channels that I watch to voice my concerns there, and what I find universally is they don't advertise anything but a few products. They point to the AP hosting services.

So here we are.

I would like to make a suggestion that applies to all ads. First I don't mind ads, I can go take a bathroom break.

Second the ads you run repeat like 4 times I A ROW. That's just bad marketing. I wonder if you charge per ad and your sponsors don't know you do that. hmmm maybe they should be informed.

It's bad marketing because when things are repeated over and over, the viewer gets annoyed, and will become anti-whatever the ads are saying, just because of the repetition alone.

Now to the meat.

You have political bias.

There is a law or at least ETHICS that require what is called Equal Time.

This requires a station (which you have become) to reach out to political opposition party's and give them either an opportunity to run ads of their own, or dispute allegations made in the ads you run on your station.

This can be done by posting a short informational text after any political ad block, inviting the opposition to engage your marketing dept. in this regard. Post a number or contact info there. Make it visible and long enough to READ IT and appease ppl like me who are considering alternate means to watch our favorite APs.

Please don't just use the excuse that you just are making money and don't care who pays you. That makes you Unethical and is not an excuse. You can make more money by being FAIR and reaching out to balance Political ads.

Please take this and the very numerous threads that you have ignored, and hand them to the COE of ROKU so they have a chance to review it. I see enough complaint in this forum to suggest it is indeed something they should be concerned about it. This political season is already stressful enough without angering more than 50% of your user base.

I enjoy ROKU and the ease of use built into TVs. Don't make it like all the others and ruin it.

Thank You for listening

PS: For those replying here, don't ruin it with foul language or violating TOS of this forum, Thanks!

Re: Repetetive Ads and Political Bias

Roku only controls the ads shown on the Roku home screen or within The Roku Channel. And even there it's possible that some 3rd party ads might also be shown. All other channels control any/all ads shown within those channels. For those channels, you need to contact those providers, as Roku has zero control over them. Not only the number of ads, but the content themselves.
