reporting inappropriate ads?

Numerous roku devices are being used in our house for the live internet channels and whether its kids shows, anime, kpop or whatever non horror/mature themed channel, a haunt tv channel ad keeps showing up during commercial breaks with horror imagery and basically mild jump scares. Is there anyway to report this or at least set up some sort of block(parental if that would even work maybe) so it stops coming through?

The awkward part is its most likely served through roku itself  advertising a live channel and isnt a 3rd party ad like tide or whatever usually shows up. This is getting to the point I dont want to have these devices anymore as the kids are not reacting too happily to this horror ad

Re: reporting inappropriate ads?

Yeah,  just finished watching a family Christmas movie and was disturbed to see a couple of sex toy ads (Adam and Eve) running. Very inappropriate.

Re: reporting inappropriate ads?

I hope someone from Roku is reading this. I care not to see a bloody show about vampires when I'm getting ready for work in the morning. I went into my settings and reset the ads. I don't know if it will help but I don't know what else to do.

Re: reporting inappropriate ads?

I can understand how this can be disturbing and frustrating for you and your family. Here are a few things you can try to stop the horror ads from showing up on your Roku devices:

  1. Use the parental controls: Most Roku devices come with parental controls that allow you to set up a PIN and restrict access to content based on age ratings. To set up parental controls, go to the Home screen and select "Parental controls" from the Settings menu.

  2. Use a third-party ad blocker: There are several ad blockers available for Roku devices that can block unwanted ads, including those from the Roku Channel. To use an ad blocker, you'll need to install it from the Roku Channel Store and configure it according to the instructions provided by the developer.

  3. Contact Roku customer support: If you're unable to block the horror ads using the above methods, you may need to contact Roku's customer support for further assistance. They should be able to help you troubleshoot the issue and offer a solution.

It's important to note that some ads may be served by third-party ad networks, in which case Roku may not have direct control over them. In such cases, you may need to contact the ad network or the content provider to request that they stop showing the ads.

Re: reporting inappropriate ads?

Why is this pornographic image + title on my home screen?! I have a young child. This is unacceptable. Date of incident: 1.15.23 at 1:39 PM (CA time.).

Re: reporting inappropriate ads?

Appreciate the suggestions ChippyTech. I have been able to block the home screen Roku ads in the past through my modem settings but I did not know there were ad blockers available to block things like Roku Channel ads. I will definitely look into it.

I have been watching the Roku Channel for about 2 months now and tonight for the first time I got what I consider an offensive ad. It's an animated woman singing about female body hair. For the record I'm female and fully support people making grooming choices for themselves without social pressure, but the ad is incredibly obnoxious and off putting. There's a difference between stigmatizing something (as the ad mentions) and simply treating some things with the privacy and care they deserve.

Anyway I will try your suggestions. But I'm also hoping someone from Roku answers because I would like to know if there's a specific email we can leave feedback on ads or if I should just try general customer support? In the meantime I'm hesitant to continue watching the Roku Channel if unwanted surprises like this are going to happen. 😕

Re: reporting inappropriate ads?

There are ways to block the home screen ads using the hidden menus in Roku. They cannot be discussed here, but the information is available if you search for it.

As to ads within specific channels, those are all under the control of the channel provider. Roku does have an ad service that channels can use, but the channel itself is still controlling what is displayed. So for any channel other than The Roku Channel, you have to contact that channel provider. Roku has no control over any ads shown within a channel other than The Roku Channel.

Re: reporting inappropriate ads?

I was just watching AccuWeather minding my own business, and the horror show ads come on. At 730 am? SERIOUSLY? It's a Roku channel ad for their Horror channel which I never watch. It's THEIR platform, not a third party. The sick, twisted person who is programming the horror, drag queen and **bleep** ads, and the inappropriate times they are shown, needs to be fired, before we Roku users fire Roku!

Resetting the ads on all my players seemed to help, for the time being. Or maybe Roku fired this idiot causing them to lose money.

Re: reporting inappropriate ads?

@mothermoogie all that means is Accuweather is using a Roku ad server. But Accuweather is still the one responsible for the ads, and they are the ones that should be controlling the ads. Roku merely provides the ad streaming service. Accuweather has to tell them what is appropriate for their channel. And I would agree that it doesn't seem like an appropriate ad for their channel.

Re: reporting inappropriate ads?

I also just wrote in about the ads for the Roku "Haunt" channel that are appearing on other family friendly channels. My wife and I saw one last night that spooked us. Full of demonic content. Would hate for one of my kiddos to see that garbage.
