Same here on both Roku Sticks for the last day; but it’s intermittent. After rebooting and launching YouTube it’ll keep freezing and rebooting at black screen and then suddenly it will work after random number of tries.
both of mine are:
Model 3600X - Roku Stick
Serial: 5S467E236758
software: 9.4.0 build 4200-24
You are blaming Roku, but Google is the one that's altered the channel code. Roku has nothing to do with it. This is an issue with the YouTube channel, and it's Google that has to fix it.
I have had the same exact issue. Not sure what the problem is but when I try to load the app the screen goes black and then takes me back to my home page
Google has released a YouTube update that appears to be broken on older Roku players. No way to know if they did it intentionally, not wanting to support older players any longer. But Roku has no control over it. You need to contact Google and complain.
Same here as everyone else.
I found a temporary fix on reddit. You need to clear the roku cache. To do so, press home 5 times, press up once, rewind twice, fast forward twice. The device will restart. App opened up after restart, but happened again after 2nd use. Let's hope youtube just fixes this soon.
Side note- why does roku make you use a secret code to clear the cache and not just make it an option in the menus?
I'm having the exact same problem on my Roku 3. The last two days, Youtube won't launch at all. It will either go back to the Roku home screen or force a hard system restart. I've deleted and reinstalled the app 4 times with no success. All software is up to date.
Youtube works just fine on my Ultra.
I want this fixed.

You have to complain to Google. They own YouTube and maintain the app for all the various players.

Literally was typing this out and suddenly Youtube started working again.
Thanks for that tip. How do you actually contact and let google know? Is there a feedback option for the app? I can't find one online or on Youtube.com or anywhere on Google.
