Re: YouTube update of 1/19/21 crashes older Roku

We have 2 different devices (same Roku/different TVs) with the same issue.

Roku device model 3600 - Roku Stick
-serial number - 5S674U172482
-device ID ?
-software OS/version - 9.4.0 - build 4200-24
-does this issue occur on a specific channel? This only (so far) happens on YouTube, build 93000128 (supposed to be most current)

-tracker ID when this issue occurs (when you see this issue occur, press the Home button 5 times, followed by the Back button 5 times) - This functionality is unavailable as the system freezes/crashes once the YouTube app is selected
-steps to reproduce the issue you are seeing - Simply click on YouTube to try and open the app - it happens every time

I’ve updated all possible software, reinstalled YouTube, and eliminated a number of unused apps (only have 20 installed).

I believe the issue is if you have youtube tv added without subscription.  Deleted youtube tv and good.

Not necessarily. I'm not subscribed to YouTube TV and I still have the exact problem as the others.

Exactly the same thing happens to me.  If I try to launch You Tube the entire roku system freezes.  I have to unplug roku and turn off the tv then open roku again.  I have deleted You Tube and then reinstalled it but as soon as I launch the channel roku freezes.  Mine is 2015 also.

Re: YouTube update of 1/19/21 crashes older Roku

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the posts.

We would recommend removing any unused channels from your Roku device. Then try removing the Youtube channel from the Roku home screen. Then restart your device from Settings>System>System restart. Once your player starts up again, add the channel back once more.

Does this clear up the issue you are seeing? Please keep us posted.

Thanks,
Danny

Re: YouTube update of 1/19/21 crashes older Roku

I have been able to resolve the issue by performing the following:

1. Remove the YouTube and YouTube TV apps

2. Make sure 'Home' is selected on the main menu.

3. Using the remote control, press the following buttons:

          A. Press 'Home' 5 times.

          B. Press 'Up'.

          C. Press 'Rewind' 2 times.

          D. Press 'Fast Forward' 2 times.

4. It will take 15-30 seconds to clear cache and restart the unit.

5. Reinstall the YouTube app.

**NOTE**  I did NOT delete any unused channels even though I only had around 30 in my list.

I did NOT unplug/replug the Roku.

I honestly thought this was a troll fix, but after trying LITERALLY every other fix, I thought, “why not?”  And to my complete surprise this resolved the issue.  Thanks very much!!

Is this issue with YouTube ever going to get resolved?

Thank you for your time.
