YouTube (not you tube tv) won't open

I keep having to remove YouTube, restart the system and re-add YouTube (and subsequently sign back in to YouTube).  Every day to every other day, the channel just won't open.  I click on it, the Roku "bings", but it doesn't open.  Then I have to go through that sequence to be able to watch.  Obviously, it's VERY annoying.  How do I fix this?

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the posts and your patience while we worked to resolve this issue. We have identified the cause and this issue has now been fixed.

For clarification, if you are experiencing an issue with Youtube (or other channels) that state the channel could not run because it could not be reinstalled from the network, please apply the latest fix by following the instructions below to manually check for a software update.

  1. Press the Home button on your Roku remote.
  2. Scroll up or down and select Settings.
  3. Select System.
  4. Select System update.
  5. Select Check Now to manually check for update.

If you are experiencing another issue, not related to what has been described above, we would recommend creating a new post stating what the issue is in detail.

We will be closing this thread out.

What you're experiencing isn't normal. And it's something most users don't encounter. So, let's get a little more information about your setup. You didn't provide the model number of your Roku device. That's always helpful. The software version is helpful, too. Settings > System > About

Are you using a VPN?

Are you in the USA? If not, what country are you in?

Thanks for helping.  Sorry, I forgot to put that stuff in when I posted.  I am in the USA.  I am not using a VPN.  I will have to check the modem number and software when I get home.

The same issue happens to me on my 2018 Sharp Roku TV. The problem is intermittent, but I have been just restarting my TV in order to fix the issue, no need to uninstall and reinstall YouTube for myself.

We too are having this same issue with the Youtube app, as well as the Roku channel app now. This thing with youtube started early last week, but didn't start with Roku until 3 days ago.

I also apologize, our Tv is the Onn 50in ROKU Tv. Its about a year ood now. Our grandsons Highsence 32in Roku Tv. Has no issues with Youtube, not sure about the Roku channel however I will check it today and get back. I find it strange that the Tv opens every app accept Youtube and the Roku channel. I figured the deal with youtube is due to Roku and Google's money issues.

Don't make the mistake of thinking the Google-Roku dispute extends beyond YouTube TV. The current dispute does not impact YouTube, it only impacts YouTube TV.

Ok, that makes sense, thank you fir the info. I dont understand why I dont have the option to remove the Roku channel on this Onn 50in Roku Tv so I can remove and install it again like I have with Youtube.

If you have a subscription through an app using Roku billing, you can't remove the app unless you cancel the subscription. If you've subscribed to stuff through The Roku Channel, you can't remove The Roku Channel. Same with Netflix; if you've subscribed to Netflix through Roku, you can't remove Netflix. And so on.

Log in to https://my.roku.com/ and click Manage your subscriptions to see if there is a subscription.

Known solutions/workarounds for YT app not loading:

1) Check for updates (Settings/System/System updates/Check now) - try again

2) Change your Theme to the Roku Default (Settings/Theme/Restore default theme) - try again

3) Change your Screensaver to a Roku clock (Settings/Theme/Screensavers) - try again

4) Remove YT app, RESTART ROKU (Settings/System/System restart), Add YT app - try again

5) Network connection reset (Settings/System/Advanced system settings) - try again

6) Completely unplug power from Roku for 10-15 minutes - try again

7) Factory reset (Settings/System/Advanced system settings) <--- last resort
