The same issue happens to me on my 2018 Sharp Roku TV. The problem is intermittent, but I have been just restarting my TV in order to fix the issue, no need to uninstall and reinstall YouTube for myself.
Good points . . . I bet you're right about this!
Same here. Twice!
I have had the same problems. I am updating now but I don't hold much hope. This YouTube issue seems to be happening almost every day now. I just don't understand how the YouTube app on Roku would be any different from the others I have which work perfectly fine. It's definitely a Roku issue since I have no problems getting YT in my browser.
Hi @northsocal,
Thanks for posting in the Roku Community!
Please try to remove the channel again, then update the Roku device by going to Settings > System > System update > Check now, restart your Roku device, and add back the channel.
Let us know how it goes, we're hoping this will work for you.
Regards,
Mary
I don't think forcing a system update does any good, considering the last time it was updated was MAY 14 and it is now JUNE 23. Considering I have an older model 4200 and a newer TCL smart TV 7101X model 43S403. Since Roku wants us to update are software let's all give them the information of when the last update ACTUALLY WAS.
MAY 14
Somebody IS NOT doing their job and Roku wants to pass the buck to us saying we need to update our system. My DEVICE says it's up to date. If I have to do this tomorrow I will start listing prices of competitor devices. As I stated earlier Roku may be the best game in town (not for much longer) but it's not the only game in town.

The updater mechanism updates the firmware and the apps (both visible and hidden ones).
The "Last updated" date shown only refers to the date of the last firmware update, not of the last app(s) update.
Issue for passed week, YouTube will not launch on my Roku Express. No screensavers installed, just 6 channels. When attempting to launch nothing happens, just makes the usual Roku clicking sound confirming button pressed.
I uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled You Tube, then need to confirm account for Youtube via phone each time I wish to watch.
Any long term fix rather than following your developers advice?
I should add, each time YouTube fails I check for Updates for Roku and each time it states I'm fully updated.
June 23, 6pm Central Time, problem returns, except this time I can't get YouTube to open at all. Power restarts, system restarts, remove channel/add channel.
YouTube doesn't open.
Am going to search for a Roku alternative.
