Your understanding is incorrect - Roku is in a carriage dispute with Google over YouTube TV (not YouTube - different app).
I don't care about the logistics, I had Youtube working fine for a long time on my TV and as of Father's Day it is no longer accessible. What happened?

I’m done with it I’ve been the biggest cheerleader for Roku I own six of them and I’ve turned everyone I know onto them but this blocking of YouTube is a bridge too far. Hey Roku here’s a clue if you’re going to have a war with YouTube don’t do it the day before Amazon prime day because I’m going with fire stick now

3. Tried other options on asterisk menu but only uninstall/reinstall has worked
4. no error message - the icon does not change when clicked on and nothing is working in the background.
It's not on our end, they're just blowing smoke up it, it's all about some dispute with YouTube.
